Sheffield Wednesday are edging closer to an incoming – or two – at least according to manager Garry Monk who provided an encouraging update on the radio this morning.
What’s he said?
The Owls are yet to make a splash in the transfer market and with just a few days remaining until Friday’s deadline, time appears to be quickly running out.
There have been continuous links to Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham but any substantial news or confirmation on the matter is yet to reach the public eye.
However, Monk revealed that the club are close to ‘one or two things’ to BBC Radio Sheffield today.
He said:
“I’m in communication with the club and I’m told that we’re a lot closer to something happening, so I’m hoping, yeah.
“In the next I can’t say how many days or hours it is, but hopefully we’re a lot further down the line now and that’s what I’ve been told. So yeah, hopefully, there’ll be an incoming or incomings in the near future.
“Obviously, where we are right now we’ll have to see about that but I’m told that we’re close to one or two things.
“That’ll be down to a detail of admin and stuff like that if we’re that far but I’ll have to speak again to the club today.
“It’s early in the morning so there’s no-one up at this time. I’ll find out in the next few hours where we are.”

Time running out
The Owls are firmly against the clock this week. Whose fault that lies with remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure – they need to bolster the side.
Monk likely doesn’t fancy his striking options now that top goalscorer Steven Fletcher is out injured for the foreseeable future.

Sam Winnall has been given the starting nod in recent weeks, scoring the winner against Queens Park Rangers on Friday night, while it has been reported that Jordan Rhodes is free to leave the club before the deadline should a team cough up his extortionate wage demands.
32-year-old Fletcher is out until at least March as he recovers from a knee injury and his 12 goals will be hard to replace as no other member of the Wednesday squad has surpassed three so far this season.
