Crystal Palace fans react as Fabio Borini undergoes medical with Hellas Verona

Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was revealed that Fabio Borini was undergoing a medical with Serie A side Hellas Verona.

The Italy international has accepted a contract offer from Hellas Verona until the end of the season, and was filmed arriving at the club’s Don Calabria Multipurpose Centre for his medical examinations.

Why has this piqued the interest of Crystal Palace fans on Twitter?

Well, the former Swansea and Liverpool forward was believed to be in the Eagles’ sights this month, with The Evening Standard reporting that the south Londoners had made contact with AC Milan over the availability of the attacker – a move to Selhurst Park now looks extremely unlikely as he gets set to join Hellas Verona.

The 28-year-old has made just two Serie A appearances this season – one from the bench, and one start – while failing to record a single goal involvement.

Across his career, Borini has made 274 appearances, but has managed to score only 63 goals – this works out at an average of a goal every 4.3 games, which isn’t great for a striker in all honesty.

With that in mind, that perhaps goes some way to explaining why some Palace fans below sound quite relieved.

One fan who runs an account called ‘HLTCO’ went as far as saying that their “prayers have been answered” – the fact that their tweet is in all capitals hints that they’re quite excited by the fact Borini won’t be joining Palace.

Another said “thank the good lord” after hearing of the news, before telling the Italian striker to enjoy his new club.

Elsewhere, these two supporters even said that this update on Borini is the “best news” of the transfer window so far – it seems that this pair really didn’t want to see the AC Milan forward end up at Selhurst Park.

It’s the dawn of a new decade in the Premier League, but how much do you know about the last 10 years?

Another fan named Luke simply said “happy days” – again, like HLTCO, the capital letters really puts emphasis on just how happy this supporter is to hear the news.

Lastly, a supporter named Ben shared a slightly different viewpoint on this deal, saying that they “would’ve taken him over” Cenk Tosun, who signed for the Eagles on loan until the end of the season.

In other news, this transfer decision from Crystal Palace is absolutely bonkers and makes no sense whatsoever…
