Manuel Pellegrini has been given two matches to save his job at West Ham United, according to The Daily Mail.

The Hammers manager has been put under intense pressure, with plenty of speculation surrounding his position, as fans have reacted to reports suggesting that Eddie Howe or Sean Dyche could succeed him.

This comes as a consequence of West Ham having not won a single one of their last eight games in all competitions, taking just two points from their seven most recent Premier League games.

It is suggested that the board have sympathy for Pellegrini’s situation due to the fact that Lukasz Fabianski is still out injured, which has played into their thinking of giving him two more games.

However, with those matches coming against Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers, who currently sit fourth and fifth respectively, it feels a little bit like he is being set up to fail.

They are also fourth and sixth in the form table, which offers an indication of the test that Pellegrini’s side will be facing.

The following three matches are against Arsenal, Southampton and Crystal Palace, who make up the rest of the league’s four least in form teams alongside the Hammers.

This perhaps offers an indication that the board don’t want those games to be wasted if Pellegrini is unable to get results.

Therefore, it can be argued that he is being set up to fail and filling a gap before someone else comes in, rather than being given a proper chance to save his job.
